Julie Ann in the courtyard of the Fitzwilliam Museum

From the Editor's Desk

I earn my keep teaching composition, but that does not mean I enjoy being particularly didactic or critical.
I get writer's block sometimes.
I believe that repetition and rhyme is for children (and we shouldn't forget children).

As an editor, I need the patience of the poets.
As a reader, I like to sit close to someone I trust when entering unknown territory.
As a reader and writer, I like fairy tales with happy endings.

As a child, I learned that you go see a counselor (of the law or the psyche) about divorce, and that you go see a priest about marriage and family life. Then I went to Iceland and learned that one young Robin Hood lawyer once went to great lengths to save a beautiful waterfall. I will always remember going to see that waterfall. It's called Gullfoss.

I believe in a higher power who loves the artist and her muse.

The Guidebook should be considered a play on words. I own an impressive collection of travel guidebooks, and the print edition of this journal incorporates this collection in aesthetically innovative ways.
